18-year old charged with rape

A Rome teenager arrested earlier this week on charges of aggravated sodomy has now been additionally charged with rape.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 18-year-old Austin Gaige Barton held the victim down and forcibly raped her at his residence on Scarlett Lane.

He also allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she did not send him nude pictures of herself.

After the victim ended the relationship following the sexual assault, Barton reportedly put her under unwanted surveillance and followed her around Rome.

According to the report, the victim is considered a disabled adult under Georgia law.

Barton is also charged with stalking, terroristic threats and acts, theft by extortion, exploitation of a disabled adult, and simple battery.

Earlier in the week, Barton was charged with aggravated sodomy in an incident that occurred at the College and Career Academy property on Poe Avenue.

He was also charged with theft by deception for allegedly selling stolen weed eaters at a location on 2nd Street in Shannon for $120 between March and April of this year.
