Man accused of using his vehicle as a weapon

A 27-year old Rome man is facing charges of aggravated assault after police say he used his vehicle as a weapon against another person.

According to the arrest warrant, Desmond Lavonta Brown of a Turner McCall Boulevard address rammed another vehicle at a high rate of speed in the driver’s side door.

The impact caused the victim’s vehicle to leave the roadway and it was totaled in the wreck, according to the warrant.

Brown was also charged with aggressive driving, reckless driving and hit and run in connection with the incident that occurred this past Saturday on Wilshire Road.

He also reportedly violated his conditional bond by approaching the victim’s home, resulting in an additional charge of aggravated stalking.

Report: Murder suspect had knife in his jail cell

A man arrested on murder charges back on June 4 is facing an additional charge of unauthorized possession of a weapon by an inmate.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 46-year old Wallace Chambers Jr. had a knife hidden in the toe of his shoe while inside his jail cell.

The additional charge was filed on Monday.

Chambers turned himself to authorities last week after warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of murder and aggravated assault in the shooting death of 74-year old Johnny Lewis Price on Hardy Avenue on May 30.


Report: Woman kicked and struck officers

A Calhoun woman was arrested after allegedly fighting with Floyd County Police at a residence on Cave Spring Road Monday night.

According to arrest reports, 28-year old Samantha Lee Powell initially gave officers a false name.

Police discovered her real identity and were advised by dispatch that she possibly had warrants out for her arrest.

As she was being handcuffed, Powell reportedly resisted by pulling away and then began kicking and hitting the officers.

Powell is charged with two counts of felony obstruction and giving a false name or date of birth.

She is also being held for the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office on unspecified charges.


Two charged with possession of cocaine

Two women were arrested on Shorter Avenue Monday on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records, K-9 “Brew” alerted officers to the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle which was being searched because a wanted fugitive was inside.

Suspected cocaine was discovered inside a glass smoking pipe.

32-year old Heather Renee Floyd of a Davis Loop Road address in Rome and 35-year old Marion Danielle Jones of Compton Road in Silver Creek are both charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug-related objects.

Jones is also being held for Polk County authorities.


Two charged with meth possession

A traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plate at Martha Berry Boulevard and John Davenport Drive in Rome Monday ended with the arrest of two Dalton residents on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records, the sheriff’s office K-9 was deployed and gave a positive alert to the passenger side of the vehicle.

A glass smoking device containing suspected methamphetamine residue was then located under the passenger seat of the vehicle.

28-year old Cierra Spring Mills and 43-year old Joseph Alan Mills were arrested and charged with possession of meth and possession of drug-related objects.

Joseph Mills was additionally charged with driving with cancelled registration, no insurance and concealing the identity of a vehicle.
