Two former Floyd County Prison immates charged with conspiracy

Two men have been charged with conspiring to smuggle drugs into the Floyd County Prison in October of last year.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 35-year old Gerald Kyle Griffin of Decatur instructed another individual to leave drugs at a specific location with the intent of bringing the drugs into the prison.

That individual complied and left 33.6 grams of methamphetamine and 32 grams of marijuana.

Griffin is charged with criminal solicitation, conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, the sale of meth, and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Meanwhile, 23-year old Jerome Lavelle Hodges Jr., also from the Atlanta area, attempted to the recover what he believed to be the drugs left for Griffin at Shag Williams Park in the Shannon area.

Hodges is charged with criminal attempt to commit felony possession of marijuana.


More charges for man accused of stealing from mailboxes

A Rome man arrested late last week for allegedly signing, cashing and depositing checks stolen from the mailboxes of local businesses is facing additional charges.

36-year old Perry Lee Barnes of a Lull Road address was initially arrested last Friday and charged with a single count felony 3rd-degree forgery, four misdemeanor counts of 4th-degree forgery, two counts of misdemeanor theft by receiving stolen property and a probation violation.

He is now also implicated in a number of other similar incidents.

On Tuesday, Barnes was additionally charged with 16 counts of theft by taking from a mailbox, five counts of theft by taking from a residential mailbox, five counts of 3rd-degree forgery, and eight counts of 4th-degree forgery.

Barnes is also being held for authorities in Whitfield County and Hamilton County, Indiana on unspecified charges.

The officer involved has been identified and a woman in the home was also arrested.
