It's tax deadline day

April 15, 2019--7:48 a.m.

Staff reports

Today is the deadline to get those income tax returns in the mail.

If you can’t make the deadline, you can ask for a six-month extension, which must be filed today.

You can file for one online using Free File. Or, you can fill out a Form 4868 and mail it to the IRS address in your state. It must be postmarked by today.

If you’re expecting a refund, you won’t get it until after you file your return.

If you owe money, your tax bill is due today.

If it’s too much to pay all at once you can apply for a short-term or long-term installment plan, or apply to settle for a smaller amount.

You can also request a temporary delay in payment from the IRS.
