Fire reported On Broad Street early Thursday

ROME POLICE REPORTS

The Rome Fire Department was called to a small fire on Broad Street early Thursday morning.

A Rome Police Officer spotted the fire on the sidewalk adjacent to the building at 421 Broad Street just after midnight.

The fire was against the building and it was three piles of what appeared to be some kind of dense paper that was burning.

One was contained within a metal paint can.

Police tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire but it was ineffective.

That’s when the fire department was called to the scene.

The cost of repairing the damage to the building was unknown at the time of the report.
 

Man charged with meth possession

A 22-year old Rome man was arrested at a location on Avenue A Wednesday on meth possession charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Zachary Leon Hall of a Cave Spring Street address was taken into custody after methamphetamine and an empty syringe was found in his pants pockets.

Hall is also charged with possession of drug-related objects.
 

Woman arrested for possession of cocaine

A couple of crack pipes land a Rome woman behind bars early Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 43-year old Diana Lapreece Carmichael of an East Glover Street address was arrested at the Royal Inn on Martha Berry Boulevard.

The report states that the two crack pipes contained cocaine residue.

Carmichael is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug-related objects.
 

Man charged with being a fugitive from justice

A Rome man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Thursday on felony fugitive from justice charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 59-year old Gerald Moten of a Wilson Avenue address was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Cherokee County, Alabama.
