Two facing drug charges following alleged shoplifting incident

What began as a shoplifting arrest ended with two women facing drug charges Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 31-year old Margaret Baldwin of Agnes Street in Rome stole $20 worth of adult diapers from the East Rome Walmart.

She was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.

However, police say Baldwin was also in possession of a bag of methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe, which she handed off to another woman, identified as 36-year old Sandra Jean Baldwin of an Avenue D address in Lindale.

Both women were then charged with possession of meth and possession of drug-related objects.


Report: Parolee had drugs, firearm

An Adairsville man is lodged in the Floyd County Jail charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to jail records, 38-year old Matthew Doyle Fortenberry was arrested Wednesday after two pills, suspected to be hydrocodone, were found in the bedroom of his Adairsville Road home.

A blue straw containing a white, powder-like substance was located next to the pills.

In addition, there were .410 caliber shotgun shells in his nightstand and the firearm was under the bed in a different room.

Fortenberry is also being held on a parole violation.


Woman charged with meth possession

A 33-year old Silver Creek woman was arrested Wednesday after drugs were reportedly found during a probation search at her Raintree Drive residence.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Lauren Ashley Baxter was found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine.

She is charged with meth possession and a parole violation.


One person was airlifted another transported by ambulance following a two-vehicle wreck with entrapment on the East Rome Bypass at Turner Chapel Road Sunday.
