Seven-year-old Jack Hoffman became an instant sensation when he lined up in the Nebraska backfield during the team’s annual spring game and ran for a 69-yard touchdown in front of more than 60,000 fans.
Now that moment is immortalized forever on a trading card.
Upper Deck announced Tuesday that it was creating limited edition “rookie” cards of Hoffman during his run to commemorate the occasion and help raise money for pediatric cancer research.
Hoffman is battling pediatric brain cancer and became linked with the Huskers after forming a special friendship with former running back Rex Burkhead.

"Jack had a larger than life moment on the field that day for Nebraska which is why Upper Deck is creating a limited number of promotional blow-up rookie cards for Jack to sign and use for charitable purposes," Chris Carlin, Upper Deck's sports marketing manager, said in a statement. "Upper Deck is proud to play a small role increasing awareness in Jack's cause and we are excited to be a part of 'Team Jack!'"
The cards will not be distributed as to keep Hoffman’s amateur eligibility intact, but Hoffman will sign several cards and auction them off in the next few weeks. The proceeds will go to the Team Jack Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to pediatric brain cancer research.
"We are humbled that a prestigious sports card company like Upper Deck would take such an interest in our son Jack," said Andy Hoffman, Jack's father. "We are so thankful for their interest in joining our family in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. With their help, we will be able to keep moving the ball forward by getting this devastating disease elevated onto the national agenda."
The touchdown at Nebraska was cool and this is even cooler. It’s amazing how many people have rallied around Hoffman and subsequently brought his disease into the spotlight. Our best wishes to Jack, his family and here’s to raising a lot of money for his research.
